Today’s first was totally different…..nothing I’d ever done before. It was inspired by friend, Mandy. I knew we would be spending the day together so I wanted to plan something for us to do that she would love. You see, she is the artistic type. She is unlike anyone I’ve ever met and so totally cool. She can look at something and envision its potential — whether its an ingredient, a tee shirt, or a person. She sees beauty and uniqueness where others might pass by unaware. I love spending time with her any chance I get — which is not often enough.
Since she loves crafts, I searched online for a place we could make our own pottery or paint our own pottery. I knew this would be right up her alley. I was right. You could see the excitement in her face when we walked in the door. I was hoping it would be something new for her, too, but it wasn’t. Turns out she had been there once before, but it didn’t matter. She was so excited to be there. We each picked out a ceramic — her a scalloped edge plate and me a coffee mug. The owner went over some basics with us and then we were turned loose. Mandy warned me that I should have worn old clothes as this could get messy. An hour-and-a-half later, our masterpieces were complete. At least the painting was. We left them there so they could be fired in the kiln which will make the paint permanent. I will go back next week to pick up the final products.
This was so much fun. There’s something about getting paintbrushes in your hand that is invigorating and childlike. Giggles and smiles come naturally. I highly recommend this first to add to your life, too!
